INFO
I can still remember when I was younger and working a game-development project. I used a new image generation website that was computer powered. I created very basic and simple grass and rock textures that seemed kind of 'off' never the less they looked realistic enough and I was thrilled about how far technology had come. This was in 2018
Now that in recent years image generation has exploded and has been getting better every day its actually being used in the entire creative industry. Its fun to see how simple things start and how quickly its grown. Not only can these types of creative tools be used in game design but in practically every corner of the creative industry.
In early 2023 I started to look into how to host a AI locally. After training it on a Microsoft-azure provided dataset I started to generate images to help me with editing my photoshoots for my brand.
GORE, grotesque and often not pleasant to look at. The texture of flesh and blood will always provoke an unique disgust, while no different from the uncooked steak and other meats we consume on a daily basis.
Blood is something very close to my brand. The name iselldemonblood loosely inspired by the fact that I have a blood disease.
I knew I wanted some kind of blood in my photoshoots but fake blood is hard to clean up and to get out of models and clothes. Editing in the blood usually results in mediocre results because of bad quality fake_blood.jpg's. Using real gore imagery is a bit outside of my moral-comfort zone, I'm a huge fan of everything bloody when it comes to horror films and such. But real death is still something that makes my stomach churn, so I tried something unusual. I tried to generate walls covered in blood with stable-diffusion and started experimenting with creating textures to use in my digital work.
AI generated gore is something weird. It seems like the computer warps and merges shapes and flows, the abstract imagery still tricks your brain into thinking it is 'somewhat' resembling of wounds and flesh. Perfect for me to use in my content without having to look through the internet for real death and destruction.
I dont think AI is making artists lazy or killing the scene, for me its a tool and something that I can intergrade into my workflow. While I mainly use it for my photo-editing I also use it in the graphic design of posters and as a source of inspiration.
The background really adds to the overall atmosphere of the showcase. While realistic the AI-Generation also evokes something uncanny.
Like something is just not right.
